What is a 30-Day Challenge?
This is an opportunity for you to commit, encourage, and reflect on personal growth through 30 days of guided exercises. 30 Day Challenges allow us to build consistency, learn more about the self, and find pride for accomplishing a goal.
What is Svadhyaya?
Patanjali, known as the Father of Yoga, created The Yoga Sutras and Eight-Limbed Path as guidelines to practice Yoga. His yogic philosophy describes how to treat, control, observe, and nourish the self. These methods and habits are practiced through a list of human duties known as Niyamas. The fourthNiyama is Svadhyaya, which is the Sanksrit term for “self-study.”
What You will Need:
If you are able to find or purchase one, dedicate a journal to this 30-Day Svadhyaya Practice. This is not only a place to record your daily exercise, but also to reflect on any thoughts or wisdoms that arise throughout and after this challenge.
You will need space to practice asana (yoga poses), props you utilize in your current practice (optional, but the more the merrier!), as well as a few outdoor locations in mind to simply witness the self in different sites.
How will I practice Svadhyaya?
• Meditation
• Readings of Yogic Wisdom
• Journal Entries
• Practice of Asana & Pranayama
• Solitary Time in Nature
This 30-Day Svadhyaya Challenge asks you to observe the self in order to promote the best internal environment for your personal yoga practice, both on and off the mat. By noticing our reactions, discomforts, and patterns, we are able to empower ourselves to accomplish both short- and long-term goals with greater confidence, focus, and grace. This is supposed to be fun! Don’t take yourself too seriously- simply find gratitude that you have decided to join. Namaste, Welcome!
